Loading Events

August 8-9 | 10 am – 5 pm | Steamboat Art Museum

Join Leon Loughridge for a hands-on, two-day workshop exploring the traditional Japanese woodblock printing technique, Moku Hanga. Learn about its rich history, essential tools, and materials while gaining the skills to continue the process on your own. Students will get the opportunity to work directly with Leon to practice printing with a pre-carved block and create a simple design to carve and print. Experience the beauty of this tactile art form as you carve, ink, and transfer your own prints! All materials are provided.
Leon’s deep connection to the Southwestern landscape began on a Northern New Mexico ranch, with early exposure to art through his grandmother and further studies at the Colorado Institute of Art. After serving as an illustrator in Germany and traveling throughout Europe, he returned to Colorado and began to study printmaking and selling his prints in mountain galleries. He achieved success with woodblock and Japanese printmaking techniques that allowed him to capture the region’s atmospheric qualities.
